A few things in the past made me think.........why are we, I, or you here?

I'm here for a few reasons, these being:-

I love the net, when I was a kid this was a little different as the 'net' consisted of a sheet od A4 I wrote BBC on and some 19 year-old at uni made an input of my 5 INPUT A 10 if A>6 GOTO 30 --- 20 if A<5 GOTO 10...

Times went on from there and I discovered the 5p a play £1 jp's....

This then lead onto me being 17 and could bluff my way in a pub and get drunk spending my wages on a £4.80 JP.....

Things then became stale and a few year progressed, I earned more cash I got hitched I grew-up........

I then got a better job and I had more dough, enough to support my means but even so me Ex dumped me........and at this time the net had evolved....

Being dumped and my family slowly dispersed I turned to gambling heavy...and I discovered Fruit-Emu...............I was to say the least suicidal.........thanks to Pash, Wozza, Duplu, Hurtand and Fruitymad I thought ahh life's not so bad................and it isn't.........

Fruit-Emu and all it's sisters may well appear to be 'sad' to bringing a late 30 something back but it did.............and I love it.................this actually gives me a purpose and enjoyment...

I only wish the kid's that hadn't had a life yet could enjoy the games and not use these sites to slag off others..........this isn't designed for that is it?

I'm not far behind you Ady. Up until 5 years I ago I was a complete waste of space. Moved to London at 19, became addicted to machines. I spent all my wages on £4 JP's like Silver Shadow and Switchback. I moved back to Scotland and got a job here but life didn't improve at all. I was still addcted and was throwing at least £200 a week into machines. I realised I had to get help and I did get a counsellor.

It was a woman I met on the internet who made me believe in myself again. We aren't together now but that's because I wouldn't move abroad to be with her. My choice and sometimes I regret not doing so. My career however, has picked up no end and the FME scene has curbed my addiction. As for my love life? It's rotten, but I think the standards and attitude of British women are rotten too. That's just my personal opinion. It may change when I meet someone who feels what I feel. Love, sensitivity and the desire to make my partner happy. I'm not interested in Big Brother or women who behave like men....lol

I came here cos i loved fruit machines....... wasnt to familiar with emulations of any sort and it truley amazed me how these machines where playable EXACTLY as they were in real life...... i really couldnt get it round my head at first... was truley gobsmacked!!

Then after a some help from people like you Ady, and (believe it or not lol) Hurtand also , and his guides really got me on my way to understanding how all this worked.
After making one or two i became addicted to these and it really helped me stop playing machines (and losing money) in real life because i had a chance to really experiment with machines with no risk..... and that showed me what a con most of them really are lol.

After a while i made some really good mates in the scene and now i couldnt leave if i wanted to. There really are some arseholes about here but most of the people iv met here are absolutley class people who im proud to know and be able to chat with, and i appreciate all the people that made this all possible.

My only regret is that i didnt find fme land sooner

a majority of people play fruit machines just for the crack but spend a lot of money!! but on here u save the money and still enjoy playin a machine as if its the real thing!!! personaly if i never discoverd this site i would have wasted a lot of money these last couple of years..

I first came across the fme scene after my dad gave me a copy with the emulators and around 10 games he got from a mate so in the search of looking for more frities I typed mfme into google and then I came across this site, after some long help from ady I got the basics of dxing and made my first dx and hopefully not my last, I have to say I am proud to be a part of the best fme site on the planet and without the great help from all the mods/admins this site qouldnt be where it is today. and I hope to be part of this site for a long time to come

I'm here because one day long long ago I was into SNES/NES/GB emulation, and I thought 'wouldn't it be cool to have fruit machine emulation?'.

Did a search on Google, on my 44kbit line, and there was no good result.

Did the same thing a few weeks later, and got Maroneys Web Hovel.

Isn't that always the case? You think 'that would be useful!', do a search - nothing. Do the same search say a couple of weeks after, and everyone is selling / offering them!!

I have been browsing fruit emu for about 1 year now. I have to admit I found out through the site by buying a cd with layouts from ebay. I know its frowned upon but at least it actually said in the cd all machines here and more can be downloaded from fruit emu. (I am only providing a sercice etc).

Anyway I have always found this site really interesting and relaxing just to de stress and chill out. I was suffering really bad this year with anxiety and my nerves brought on by over working worrying about exams etc, but I found playing the emulators, reading the banter on here was a good way to unwide and relax.

So I think its only right I thank all the people who dedicate their own free time desiging layouts, emulators, the people who run this site, and the people who contribute to the forums.

Like Bencrest, I remember thinking "surely it can't be out of the realms of possibility to emulate a fruit machine on a home computer?". That thought entered my brain and left it again along with the thoughts for inventing teleportation to save money on car insurance and an invention that could create Big Macs out of fresh air using only a 12V DC electric supply.
I woke up and faced the real world and the pessimist inside me told me that fruit machine emulation would not happen until at least 2080 where I'd probably be dead due to an error in my teleportation podule or food poisoning from a dodgy burger.

I can't honestly remember how I discovered fruit machine emulation. All I Know is it must have been less than five years ago this whole thing started. It was definitely my current girlfriend who found it 'odd' that I should stay up to 3am playing LUXOR.

It's most likely I read about emulation on one of the other fruit machine player's boards. You know the sort "Have you got any tips for Crazy Fruits?" or "wots a rephill key?" that kind of thing. Two things were mentioned. This name, Chris Wren and the title "MPU3/4 emulator". I'm sure there was some kind of link posted up, so I whizzed over there in double quick time. I think Chris had his own site where he was selling the emulator. It came with two ROMs, Pot Black and Mad House (*not too sure of this second one) - you had to pay for it however. I was instantly sceptical. So some nut had coded a *simulation* of some kooky Barcrest machines and it was the *real* code right? Yeah next you'll be telling me you can record on these new DVD things that are all the rage.
Then I saw a screenshot of the classic Pot Black layout. It looked grim, functional and basic. Something about it held true. I was definitely going to buy this software, this *was* something special.
Over the next week, something very exciting happenned. Links were posted to a site which was hosting the emulator and ROMs for free, I guess this was "Maroney's Web Hovel" whereby this whole thing kicked off.
I'm pretty sure Pot Black was my first ever ROM that I played on Chris Wren's emulator. I remember getting third hold on melons - this would test him, I knew the real machine didn't do three time holds, holds after nudges yeah. For its time this was unusual. If this was a simulator, melons would drop in, probably with the appropriate Barcrest sample, however, another nail in the coffin of doubt - no win! It did seem bloomin' realistic. I had to concede, this guy was a genius and had EMULATED a fruit machine. For someone so obsessed with this aspect of gambling, it was a serious BUZZ. Roll on sleepless nights, heady nostalgia and Maroney's own anecdotes.
The next few years blurred. Primarily it was Maroney, then we had Fruit Forums, then multiple forums, then back to The Web Hovel. There were arguments, rocky patches. I was tossed into a maelstrom of fruit emulation websites. Within the Interweb flotsam and jetsam, I came to rest at Fruit Emu. A passionate site with good resources and now look at it - I love the old time (and new time) flyers, a popular forum(s) and an arcade.
I have ot be honest, the original buzz has gone. Even if tomorrow there were layouts for Hip Hopper, Spiker The Biker, Screen Play and Party Games Slotto it wouldn't set my heart racing like the first time I played Pot Black, Luxor or Mad House on the emulator.
Of course if anyone can do Party Time, Pie Factory or Crazy Fruits, then that's a different matter. Hey! Temple of Treasure would be fun.......

What's with all this DX malarky? Follow these tips to get the best from your classic layouts.

1) Give the tower a hefty boot when you go higher on a 2 and get a 1.
2) If your computer tower is on a desk or higher up than that then practice tantric yoga or super pilates or something like that so as you can do tip number 1.
3) When you get booted off the board at a critical moment, shake your head and swear under your breath - not too loud though, pretend an evil arcade owner is behind you, ready to kick you out for even looking at the machine in disgust.
4) When the machine starts to drift well under % press the space bar a little harder than usual or rapidly in succession if a long sample is playing. Swear constantly and rant on about the machine being fixed.
5) Turn the machine's % down on the emulator then grumble about how it never does third time hold on bananas like it used to. "He's fiddled with these %s" you mutter and tut - genuinely annoyed.
6) When you've lost £300 in one sitting, pick up the biggest chair you can find and smash your monitor. Call the police and vacate your house quickly. Press charges against yourself for criminal damage - pay compensation to yourself as well.

I stumbled across this site by total accident. I was searching google for fruit machines I think as I wanted to buy one. I clicked on one of the sites it brought up mand hey presto I was here. I have to say though regardless of how much I enjoy playing the emus I like reading the forums much more. I do play the emus but not as much as I ud#sed to but every night I log into this site and check it every hour or so for new threads etc.
Dont know what I would do nowadays without fruit emu as I just love it too much.

Looking for freeware & shareware fruitys to download and play

suddenly a site called DXCELLENT came up .. was a big fan of the site @ The Time and still am today

then looked @ the links and another WOW more Fruitys

well you lot are amazing in FRuit-emu keeping this site alive and well

Oooooh we're being serious.

Well, I discovered FME back in 2001 when I had first moved to the USA permanently.

I wasnt what I would call an "addict" but, I did love to play fruitys when on holiday.

I hardly played them back in London as you would be hard pushed not to get mugged if you won, so I tended to stay away from the seedy arcades and stuff and just play once a year when in Milford On Sea for 6 weeks every summer.

I lost a fair f*****g packet, don't get me wrong but I didnt carry it with me when back in London so it was under control (hence I don't see myself as ever being an addict).

I don't know what it is about fruitys that I love so much, I think it's because of the technical nature of them and the glamorous artwork and stuff.. the sounds also kick ass on the older MPU3 machines.. now there's the sound of a real arcade.

So anyways.. one day whilst on the net I stumbled accross MPUWORLD.. this place used to be ran by Morphman (who I havent seen in about 3 years) and then Kev, who I still speak to once in a while..

From there I discovered Alex's Hovel (the original one) and then the MSN group he had, and then MPUforums.. which became fruitforums after Jpemu was released.

I've been there every step of the way, apart from a 6 month break I took when it was getting too heavy for me to cope with.. I've been in every battle and every war LOL I even had my own forum DOS attacked over a stupid debate about moderation LMAO.

I don't know how many DX's I have made over the past 5 years, but I would think it ranges in the 250-300 range.

The last 30 or so have been really good.. See that's one thing I am addicted to is making layouts.. I have always been one to love to learn shit and it never gets old so long as you keep pushing yourself.. MFME is the microsoft windows of software, every time I make a layout I find another way of pushing it further and pulling off cooler tricks.

Plus then you get all the fun of creating something with your mind in photoshop.

FME isnt a patch on what it used to be from a scene standpoint.. most of the original crew grew bored with it (which saddens me to know they werent in it for the long haul) and moved onto other things.

Others I can forget tbh, some people have f***ed me left right and centre and even when I thought that things had passed that stage they never failed to amaze me.

I suppose as long as I breathe I will always be f*****g around with some fruit machine artwork in photoshop.. alot of my dreams don't go on to become reality because I cant get what I want out of them.. but they just end up as smiles somewhere in the future.

I'm taking a small break from Dxing at the moment to enjoy the summer and install a really serious system install in my car.. once that's done and the cold comes back I will be back to doing what I love
