It is great guitar! I know is has just been released and is great but do you plan to add the unique features of PTA in the future like hold after nudge, nudge timeouts and hold after win? As well as actual holds, nudges and spinning reels.

I appreciate all of your hard work. This is a fantastic sim so far.

Basically YES everything will be as Party Time Arena eventually. I only released it today to prove that it was coming along and I wasn't making it up. Holds / Nudges should be implemented in the next few days. Once the main hold / nudge setups are coded in then adding the extra's like a timeout and holds after nudge should be easy. Spinning reels is something I've worked out how to do but I simply wanted to make sure that the basics of the game worked before adding the 'pretty bits'.

I plan on making it so much better than it already is...

I would like to thank you all for being patient with me, as I know it is hard for people to do that.. And, thank you all for the help you've given me in trying to get this working. I can finally say that I think Guitars made a great job of doing it and good luck in the future with improvments and tweaks which you will do to it!

Thanks again,

Richard.

Dilos, if you goto page 7 of this thread there is a file called msstdfmt.zip uoploaded by Jamesbond. Download it and run and that should fix the problem.

If anyone knows how to make an installer in VB then I would be glad to hear from you. That should solve half the problems of which folders. Im going to include msstdfmt.zip in the next zip so that its there if you need it. Thank Jamesbond for that one.

Today, Spinning Reels, Nudges and Holds.

WOW, I normally have threads which max out at 2 pages and this did 9 overnight. Lol.

Theres a slim possibility of a network version (not an internet version), If there is a network version please be patient with me because I know bugger all about writing code for networks. I am totally self taught on computers and whilst I have been coding since age 5 I never networked ZX81's together :)
If we have a network engineer on here then I'd be glad to hear from you:)

7 player party time over a network

I have never been interested in lo tech's until the multiplayer versions appeared and I am hooked. I'm also skint hence the free version I'm creating.

Future??? I'm working on it now, I hope to have a new update every day until its finished, however not all updates will be that good.
My inspiration came fom the Pound Run Party sim that was released 2002/3 and never finished. I hate unfinished software they did all that hard work and then left it.

I need to include a load/save routine for the RAM as it clears every time you start the machine now which reduces the jackpot chances by quite a bit.

Today Im going to do the reels last but I am going to update the top reels so it is more obvious that they have moved when it brings in the same win.

Theres a slim possibility of a network version (not an internet version),

I had many theories about developing an Internet based version, using an IRC channel as the backend, when I started writing a program similar to this which is still WIP.

Network based could be easily done with a single server and six clients.... using winsock control to handle all of the network related data.

Winsock? I've heard that name before from about 3 years ago. How easy would this be to implement? I suppose the only real data going accross the network would be the top box reels info. Whichever machine goes up top just repeats the info to the other 3/6 machines and locks them from using the topbox.
I'm more worried about the main program at the moment but I do want this to be network/internet capable at some point. If we could get a server going which could handle it I would love a virtual online arcade where we could play machines against other people for score but thats a bit far off yet.
The main worry with the internet stuff is I don't really know anything about security and I don't want to leave gaping holes for attackers.

Looking excellent so far. This is something that i have been eagerly anticipating for some time. The sheer number of posts shows the interest that people have with party time simulation. In fact it makes me wonder why no one else has released a party time simulator in the last year or so.

Of course, there was poundrun party (which is an excellent sim in itself). Ive played more than £30,000 through this game since i first installed it. After so much money has gone through it, the game starts to play very much like the real machine. The only problem in my view is that there are certain periods where no feature will be offered for around £120+. There are also far too many X wins given on the base game. However, all in all this is a great sim.

Im currently at university so i can't donwload this new game. However, this will be the first thing i will do tonight. Cant wait to see how future work continues on this over the next few days/weeks.

If i had sufficient programming knowlege then i would be creating my own version of partytime or maybe golden game, OXO etc. Or maybe reno casino, that would be an interesting one to do.

Anyway, well done with the work so far guitar, will have a bash at it when i get home. Good lukc with future devlopments.

Implementation across a local network would be the simplest, passing data back and forth.

The idea i had for Internet based play would involve an IRC server and channel, where text based parameters were passed to the channel and read by each client that is connected, so that the top box would spin on each machine when one person was on it, etc. That would also allow for a chat function and would be fairly secure as it would run on port 6667.

well i downloaded it and played £300 through. Must say that its looking excellent for this early stage of development. Have had a fair few top boards varying between £2 and £26.

One thing i would suggest for the future is that all wins (X, BAR, Jackpot, and top board wins) would be better if they 'counted up' into the bank instead of just appearing. This is where the fun comes in playing partytime, as one waits whilst the win adds up on the slave unit, hoping for the feature to be triggered.

Obviously a lot still needs to be done, but so far, this is excellent. Keep up the good work mate, looking forward to future releases.

Pauldot. what OS are you running? I have only tested on Win XP so if it is older then I do not know. Have you instaled all the MS updates? I'm afraid I really don't know what to suggest except maybe reinstalling the .dll again . If anyone else can shed some light. Out Of interest has anyone succeeded in getting this to work on a non-XP OS?

I may have another release out tonight so keep your eyes peeled around 11 - 11.30. I have spinning reels on the bottom and light up reels up the top but the top reels dont spin. They move about but for reasons best known to themselves they wont spin. They do end up on the correct symbols though so its not all bad. Holds and nudges aren't in yet but I am trying to get them in b4 release tonight.

regards Nick

Hi there, sorry for the delay, I've had no end of problems with the reels. But Its roughly updated.

*Reels now spin (top and bottom)
*Top lights get brighter when on the board
*Top reels light up when on the board
*Bottom section slightly smaller for 1024*768 users
*Holds and Nudges light up when you would be awarded but DO NOT FUNCTION, (yet).
*Edited percentage payout style.
*Collect Button Works

There are a few bugs left in with the top reels, I think I know the problem but Its way too late to do anymore with now tonight. You'll know what I mean if it happens.

Any bugs at all can you let me know on here and I'll see if I can track 'em down. Although don't tell me nudges or holds dont work because I know and its annoying but will be fixed by tomorrow night (hopefully, I do have a life y'know ;) ).

If you're playing with sound switched off you will notice a pause from the splash screen to the main game.

Happy Playing

Back to the original method of packing so extract the file direct to the "C:" drive NOT IN A FOLDER and it should self extract to a folder named fruit. Run Party Time.exe in this folder and enjoy.

For those of you with .dll errors I will try to work out a solution. In the meantime can you let me know as much as possible about your systems.
Mainly what OS you are running and anything at all you think may be causing the problem. If you can't see the required file in the windowssystem32 folder the you could try downloading the file off the net (BUT be wary where you get it from).

Regards Guitar

I must admit, you've done a damn find job on this so far. Are the graphics drawn? eg the actual machine? if the machine is added, I'm sure there are a few people that could help you DX this to look perfect once it's completed.

I've uploaded this file from my pc. Try installing it to your HDD in "C:windowssystem32" folder. If you dont use C: as your OS disk then use the correct letter. I'm sorry if thats all a bit obvious as to what to do but I'm just trying to help. Its possible that the current .dll is older. Could you tell me the version of the .dll, if you goto it in the system32 folder and hover over the icon it should have a string of numbers at the bottom. if you can tell me this that may help.

Don't forget to backup the existing dll before you change to the new one. Hope this helps. Nick.
