Recently I have been re-visiting an old arcade I abandoned years ago which is full of older £5 jp machines (f*****g classics like Haunted house and colosus!!!!) - I expect to leave these machines well £10-20 of credits - generally speaking £5 jp machines cycle to quickly to play large amounts of money in - i.e. the longer you play the more times you are going to lose your 20% untill you are down to zero.
Play for a bit of profit - if you take £5+ profit think of it as the same as £25 + profit from a £25jp.
Im having more fun and making larger (relative to stake) profits from 5p jackpots (bare in mind these are all old boys of the fruity world - thus making them better) from £5 jp's than I ever do from £25 jp's.
As the industry rapes and pillages it way foward to larger and larger stake machines - I have decided to pull down my trousers wave my arse in their faces and move down in stake - Ill be on the penny falls next and be having far more fun than those pale face's sat infront of s16 down to their last 50 credits of their pay packet.
And lets face it - didnt we all have more fun as kids playing the 2p pushers than we do trying to eak a profit from chipped and re-chipped machines????
Comments appreciated.

This post started as a reply to the "snake rattle and roll" post - Hence the slightly patronising explanation of relative stake and percetage. haha - no offence intended to all you knolegable players.

you should see loads more £5 jackpot machines soon as the customs and excise are introducing a £750 license for £8 jackpot machines very soon so all sites with machines at £8 jackpot will probably change to £5 jackpot to escape the license fee.

£5/8 I really class as one in the same.
I can probably count the number of £8 jp machines within a 100 mile radias of me on one hand however.
I dont tend to favour new £5 JP machines - again greedy manafacturers --- £6 for a feature board that can offer a max of £5 - makes no sense to me at all -
it seems that gameplay is more and more focused on hitting that big one i.e. that £75 streak or that £500 JP. They might aswell replace AWP jackpots with f*****g streaks that are harder to obtain but pose as top prize (I know this is already true to some extent on some makes like Extreme's) in my oppinion.
Went into one of my locas seaside arcades the other day - almost nothing but dozens of partytime style machines - pocket money eaters. Im sure many a kid will ruin their holiday in there on the first day.
Ive said it once and will again! The industry sickens me these days.
If I ever have enough money to play with Id like to open a "classic's arcade" machines 1980-1994... wonder how popular it would be?

Yeah, I prefer £5 jackpot to £25 jackpot, I have a £5 jp and a £25 jp in myy house though
I only like my £25 jp because it's my own money being put in, and I can take it out
My £5 jp is rusting (The Simpsons) because I'm now just playing my £25 jp (Big Brother). I prefer the gameplay to barcrest than epoch.
I recently got addicted to high spirits emu, and I would be addicted to haunted house if I could get it working. I do prefer the old machines with £5 jp.
Regarding your classics arcade, I think that would be a big hit, btu it depends where it is.

I quite like the £5 machines but they really need to be played in a different manner to the £25 ones. Also £5 machines can play WORSE than £25 machines without any real effort.
Having said that, given the choice between £10 in a £25 machine, or £10 in a £5 machine, the £5 machine would win every time.

I've often thought of doing that. If you get to do it let me know where it is.If I ever have enough money to play with Id like to open a "classic's arcade" machines 1980-1994... wonder how popular it would be?

It would be as unpopular as sin.
As much as I would love to see something like this, I really don't think it would stand a chance. Sure I'd pop in as would a few others (if it were local) but the normal arcade going fraternity would be sniffing out insane (£500) jackpots elsewhere.

I was just thinking about the idea of a classics arcade some more.
Location would be key.. Perhaps an area where there is already a large fruit machine community - the only place that sticks out in my mind being Blackpool.
It would (and sadly so) probably need some other style machines to bring in less dicerning clients in..
Which begs the horrible question.. If I owned an arcade, could I resist putting high earning s16's in it.... Probably not.... Although I would rather have classic club machines (but liscencing them in arcades isnt possible? too pricey? wouldent be as popular, cant take money as fast)
Also exporing the idea of Pachislo machines in a local arcade (when I say that myself and a freind who works in a local privatly owned arcade are thinking of suggesting it to the owner, who is always open to new ideas).
If anyone could shed some light on the realisticness of this (i.e. lisences/ the chaninging of coin mechs or cash back value of tokens) I would aprreciate it - there is quite a large asian community in my town and I think it would skyrocket the arcades popularity.
I dont own a Pachislo machine yet (mores the pity) but I am buying one next in a few weeks - cant f*****g wait!
---My classics arcade would also have a row of Pachislo machines if possible---
ermm comments please

£80 in a £5jp without a jackpot in sight. this it was barcrest eachway nudger. you can imagine the senario, a few quid in, then its a tenner, thinking a jp is due, 10 goes to 20 and 30 and thinking a jp repeat several times is due. at £70 it offers me a straight jp, but i want the repeat, so another 10 quid and eventually get the jp repeater..... did it hell
let it stone dead. wont play them again.

Thats fruit machines tho a. £80 in IS crazy - but they have their hopper capacity is the same - so I guess they can shaft you just as much as a £25jp if they feel like it...
£80 in a £5 JP is similar to the £300 a Party Time Arena can shaft you with out a JP.... its all relative... all modernish fruit machines will shaft you occasinally.... Its the risk I guess we all take....
I hate it when it happens- with every tenner you change up the hope profit/breaking even gets thinner untill you are just playing because your in a state of shock.
AHH horrible - but we have all been there.. disgusting.. I often think seing a recording of yorself on losing streak would be one of the most sickeing things possible...
I remember a (ermmm Silver moon I think) £5 jp.. Once cost me £65 for a fiver with no repeat and then went dead...

Quite simply dont touch a £5 machine with only the one £1 hopper. If you think about it you are playing a hi tech machine with only 5 win values. You win "60p" but the machine cant pay that so rounds it up, meaning you have to go longer until the next win as it has to get the percentage back from somewhere. Same goes for a gamble. On a single hopper 1.20 1.60 and 2.00 are all the same gamble, yet it still will lose.
if you have a machine with a 20p hopper then these become gambles again and the machine can be a lot more feature friendly rather than waiting for enough to pay a round pound
Also, Barcrest and Bell Fruit £5 machines are just the £25 versions with the jp reduced, i.e. they still want to save for a streak and will do so by blocking smaller wins especially on lower percentages.

Yes to the above..
This why I only tend to play play classics like Haunted house etc.

A local arcade near me did have a Classic Bullseye, this is very good example of the blocking smaller wins on lower %s. It took me over £5 for one board.

Yeah if you are to play the £5 jackpots I find empires, qps etc which dont round up are better. Some of those £5 barcrests are shockers. Saw a £5 ultimo take £15 quid with no feature entry. The worst ever is phycho cash beast at £5 jackpot. I remember seeing this as I hadnt seen one and heard about how good it was in its day at £15 jackpot ( which I have subsequently played on). It seems to take £5-8 for a board then get really nervous and kill you in zone 2.
10p £5 should be fun, but they are so frustrating. They seem to have all the bad bits of a £25 jackpot machine with none of the good bits.

PCB and its clone Frenzy and its clones... are all horrible machines - Think my record in Frenzy is £10 without a feature... Funny since I was playing the Club version of PCB alot at the time which never cost more than £6-8 for a fature even if it was just to find out it was dead.
5p play £5 Jackpots which dont round up, nice examples in my oppinion are:
Haunted house (my favourite as you many have guessed)
Colosus
High Spirits
Fire Ball (a few super money belts and you not shy of £20)
Crazy Capers
Big Apple (as long as its in an ok mood)
Nudge Gems
ermm list goes on: but anything from this era is good for fun.

Some others I still find fun are
Donkey Kong even re chipped
Cash lab
Red hot Wheels
karma chamealon or whatever its called
Does anyone have a £5 on the buses in their area, there used to be one in my area but it was replaced, used to love this game, (thankfully its emulated). The latter epoch clones of this machine which rounded to the nearest £ were terrible though.

I can agree with that as I owned this machine on 78% £5 / 10p.
Worst I ever had was £45 in without the board going above £4 on the Hi-Lo stack, and the vast majority of the times I got on the stack it was blocked at £2.
Finally gave in and gave me the Super Streak, which went for - if my memory serves me correctly, about £30. It then continued to play well after, and I think I broke about evens.
There really is no way that should be feasibly possible though.
It's also annoyingly easy to get sucked in when you know how capable the top features are, so you think 'well, thats £10 in, but I'm due a top feature and I know that often gives £10 > £15 say'... slippery slope!
