Well I've decided that I want a fruit machine for my birthday. Anyone recommend anywhere good to look near to Birmingham?? I'm checking Ebay constantly but was wondering if anyone knew of any auctions or even people selling there own?

I've made posts on this before but heres the 'in a nutshell' version.

1) eBay, you can tell it to search within a particular amount of miles of your postcode.

2) Get a Yellow Pages (or you can probably use Yell.com), and look for Amusement Machine Suppliers (or anything that looks like Amusement Machines, and has adverts offering Machines, Jukeboxes, Pool tables, e.t.c.)

3) Try stuff like (some of these may be local to me but you get a rough idea), Flog It, Friday Ad, Loot, local newspapers, e.t.c.

If you are going to call a supplier from the phone book, don't be surprised if they are out, quite often they will be on call (especially true if a smaller business).

Normally they will be happy to offer you a visit to their premises to have a look at some machines they have in and would be willing to sell.

Machines from a supplier *should* be 100% working, and with some form of guarentee (often about 30 days).

Machines from eBay will typically have no guarentee, and condition varies LOADS. Some can be absolutely stunning condition for age, some can be neglected ex-kebab shop examples which will need about 30 bulbs and probably a new reel or two shortly after purchase.

I got a machine from Sims Leisure... well I actually got 2, 2nd a replacement for a faulty machine, and the 2nd itself was faulty, with something fairly terminal.

To their credit I was given a full refund including delivery charges at the end of it.

The main person I dealt with from Sims Leisure seemed to be a genuine bloke, but admitted several machines were turning up faulty, apparently due to one engineer who didn't care what state machines left the workshop in.

I would consider buying another machine from them in the future but I'd ask the bloke I dealt with to double check it to save him wasting his time and mine in getting it collected again.

when sims arrived with my machine they fully tested it again and gave it a good going over b4 the chap was happy to leave it with me fully working, so i think that they have sorted their problem regarding the engineer, as you say i to spoke to someone who really knows about the machines he sells and he was very helpful. i would use them again 4 sure.
