The Best Fruit Machine Roms

A Dx is a layout which incorporates graphics from the original machine glass. The more the better, a DX should look graphically just like the original machine.

A HDX is a hybrid DX. This is where usually the graphics and artwork from a unemulatable machine have been reproduced and the ROMs from an emulatable machine work in the background. Example: Graphics from Barcrest's Psycho Cash Beast being used with a ROM of Global's cheap innuendo rip 'Bangin' Away'.

A Classic is a layout which translates all the fundamentals of the soul of the machine to the user. At the end of the day, all you really need is a 'classic' layout to arrange all the lamps, reels, buttons e.t.c into a recognisable, sensible order. A Dx just adds realism to the layout.

My favourite lo-tech ROM is Jackpot Gems, one of the very first lo-tech releases.
My all time favourite ROM is Luxor Classic, the first one ever released, it has probably been Dxed and re-classiced to the hilt, but it is the first ROM I cycled £1000's + £1000's through, and for that reason it gets my vote.

The initial buzz of seeing what was a genuine fruit machine, NOT a pee poor simulation running on my PC has died down somewhat. The incredulity and amazement that I felt on first playing Pot Black Classic would be very hard to replicate. Party Slotto DX just wouldn't quite fit the bill.

Ok. Luxor, Jackpot Gems, Dr. Who, Mad House (used to be in Leam Shipleys until three years ago!) aaaaannnnnnnd hmmm Caeser's Palace. So many more......can I say Indiana Jones, Sonic, Only Fools and Horses, Club Blackjack, Super Spoof, The Italian Job?....well I can, but that's more than five.

You really have to dive in with the emulator software itself. On some machines changing % involves a drop down box, on others it'll involve flicking the virtual dipswitches. Some you may need to access test menus by opening the virtual back door or whipping in a virtual refill key (check box). Play about, dive in, keep a ZIP of the original ROM as in some cases running the wrong ROM with the wrong EMU can cause problems/corruption of ROM and you may need to unzip and re-install.

Press buttons, fiddle about, be enterprising. On some ROMs when running in MPU 6.0 (I think!) on starting it'd show on the emulated LED a message that the wrong sound ROM was in use. Simply pressing the space bar eliminated this. Play about with the hopper settings (configuration) by all means, however what I enjoy from emulation is seeing the SOUL of the machine recreated. The way it always used to offer two nudges for cherries straight after getting a jackpot on that feature. The way it'd always spin in that pattern of mixed bars after a hold....them kind of things. Looks aren't important to me. I appreciate super dappled, moulded techno MPU whizz flash zip mottled fractal generated super authentic buttons BUT it's the ROM that is the important bit. Whack the start button up by the mech, put the second hold in Austria and collect in the dog's dinner, I'll still play it if it's a game worth remembering.

Jump in, play about, trial and error, fiddle faddle, take a deep breath, press start, check your system stats, press start again - how's it going? click that, check this, hope for the best. Yep, Search is always there, you can't ^^^^^^ miss it, it's UP there.

The best bet however, if you're really, really, really stuck on something is to send a pm to Pgamblin - he's well known for his endless patience and kind words when dealing with 'newbie'/'n000000b' enquiries, I'm not taking the piss, go on, pm Pgamblin and ask him how to close down BFMulator 2.0 or something like that...nudge nudge wink wink smiley smiley thing winking away.
