Anyone actually use the G for George feature on some of the old machines ???
Its a good idea and if you think about it for a while its a computer vs a computer but it wont gamble on anything between 4&8 on the number reel... Shame really because you would think it could match the on board computer with any guess.
The only use i have for it at the moment is on Club Black jack... i've locked the credits to 100 and left George running all morning, cash pot is nearlly full and so far it has taken £88 by collecting every win it got. most of which have been a cherry for 20p....
Im gonna leave it running and see what it finishes at before i leave here in 3.5 hrs.

What is it ??
Do you play the older £100 club machines ?
G for George is a button to turn on computer assisted play... Basically you could whack £5 or whatever in the machine hit the George button and it would play it for you, it would give you the chance to gamble on the feature or if you left it the computer would do it for you...
Handy if you cant be bothered to press the button loads of times before getting on the feature, it also never misses a skill stop but wont gamble on a 4,5,6,7,8.
Im just using it at the moment to fill up the cash pots on blackjack club so it plays better...
The machine is now giving features away really easily and the numbers are getting better too like 1's 2's 11's and 12's whereas before it was 6's 7's...

I find that George is a pussy, got a 9 and he still collects a 20p win, mind you I bet he'll still end up better than I would. I also put in hundreds of credits and let george play on his own for a few hours, as I'm nice like that. Never used him in the wild apart from skillstops.
Things that gets me are lo-techs with the George function, Berserk for example, I mean lo-techs aren't exactly the most challenging of plays, who the hell needs George.

G for George is basically automatic play, the machine essentially plays itself.
Whilst on this subject, does anyone know where it got it's name from?

Paul

This has been asked before, and I think I came from WWII airmen, who nicknamed thier autopilots George. Although that might just be bollocks.

No, these were only on Barcrest Clubbers of a certain era, other machines had an autoplay facility, but to my knowledge it was only Barcrest who called it George.

There is an auto play on Club Ooh Ahh Dracula. It's meant to have a bit more 'bottle' than George. Although it does little to rescue what is a dire and boring clubber, especially on 5p/£75 78%.

All joking aside, George was a landmark feature.
Consider the extra code and intelligence that had to go into the rom to be George - no mean feat when you are doing these things for the first time.
Although quite basic in his understanding of the inner workings of the machine (collecting all wins no matter how small, but then again, that is the best chance of winning, not to gamble) George was once of those breakthrough concepts still used on machines today, albeit without the George name. Of course George couldn't be *that* intelligent, after all the machine knows how much it is going to pay you on a feature or win, and sharing that info with George would mean you would always get the best outcome, gambling to the limit, part collecting etc - people would never play manually again!

Pook you are right about the Auto-pilot bit........I actually read all this page...Quote from it........
On long flights we carried a second pilot, as it was obviously no fun to be hand flying for many hours. The autopilot, affectionately known as "George", was very much a steam driven affair which required some unusual aircraft manoeuvring to get it engaged. Doing this at night or in cloud, required demonstrated skills at unusual attitude recoveries.
And on a serious note......Don't forget to buy one peep's

I hit the G for George button on a machine (back in about 1987) by accident and with in 2 goes I had a feature and the clever little bugger went all the way to the top and got me the £87 from the cash pot. 8-)

On an Emulation as long as it is unlocked itself you go to edit mode. Right click the cash input button and click properties and you need to tick this box. This on MFME.

fast guy you were lucky.
i was playing a £100 jp machine with george activated back in the late 80s.
i was awarded 2 nudges,if i had manually pressed the second reel twice it would have given me 4 tripple yellow bars worth £75 and the hi/lo was on a 1 so i would have won the jp. but oh no the bastard george brought the 4th reel down 1 step and it put me into feature mode. after kicking and swearing at the fruity i played the feature and it kicked me out after getting upto a £10 win. the tubes were full and it still took another £50 to get the jp out.
