im paying some 17.99 per month for my NTL 1mb, that is apparently upgraded to 1.5 for free.

SKY are supposed to be sending out something like 16MB line either right now or the very near future, and such companies like orange are giving away 8mb broadband free to its phone subscribers??

what do us users plum for?

The Sky offer is on available in certain areas.

Plus the Sky subscriptions are about to go up, to make up for this free broadband I'm guessing:D

Sky subscriptions go up every September 1st I believe, although I'm sure it's only the Sky World package that went up this year, by about a quid :)

I'm considering Sky Broadband, but I'm currently with Plus.Net.

In terms of Customer Service I reckon they are pretty good, although no longer the cheapest. I pay £21.99 for 'unlimited' 8Mbit - which is now Unlimited between 00:00 > 16:00, but from 16:41 > 23:59 you are only allowed to download 20GB per month. Still, I guess thats fair, I mean you really shouldn't tie up everyone elses connections during peak time with binary newsgroups anyway!

Have a look at Eclipse, http://www.eclipse.net.uk, they offer 8mb from £9.99, their customer service has always been good when i've had to ring them.

As with any ISP it's only as good as your line quality and distance from the exchange....

Whereas with cable....total different kettle of fish ;)

Im currently with freedom2surf pay £25 per month and get limit of 50Gb a month which is more than i need (usually) with a max speed of 8Mb. I usually get about 5Mb until last week when it dropped to about 3Mb when i called for some support had to wait over 20 mins.
Overall service was good but im seriously thinking of moving isp now cos of the speed drop in the last week and lack of support.

ok im with telewest and i have 4mb connection for £19.99,i have had it for 9 months and i rang them the other day to say i was going to join sky,so they gave me 10mb broadband for £19.99,nice hey.and i can max out connection all time, and in 9 months has never been down or had any fault, and thats with unlimited download limit.
i have the full package with telewest(blueyonder)i get talk unlimited, all cable channels except movies and sports and the 10mb broadband and it comes to £40,but was £55 before i said i was leaving

they are great service and very good customer support and the cheapest available in uk.
sky is a con dont go there they charge £1 a minute to ring customer support and unless you pay £100 for service upfront, you have to pay for callouts and repairs

If your on ntl just phone them up say that you are going to switch to sky unless there service improves which is what my mate did. He got upgraded to 8 or 10mb for same price he was paying for 2mb. 16mb is stupid you will just end up using all your disk space up downloading shit.
