Anybody just catch it on beeb2????
Last two people on it, had a chip which they put into a fruit machine what has wireless technology, its albe to boradcast back to a pc and tell the owner how many pounds had gone in/out, how many were left, popular times of the day for it and pretty much everything. compatable with all AWP and sec 16's.
They broguht it off as a good idea, in my eyes all it does is enable the owner to see which macines are paying out to much and needs a fiddle with or something...
interesting tele though.

I thought it was a really good idea. It wasnt just the info it relays but the possibilities it gives to the owner was great, cant believe no one has ever thought of it before.
I used to be schitzophenic but were ok now.

The same type of technology exists; MIDAS etc; but not wirelessely. It is an amazing step forward. Theo Pathetis (sp) halving Duncan Banatynes offer at a stroke highlights that. As it will also stop things like refill key turning, strimming, basically cheating, I hope every AWP is fitted with one, soon.
Amazing idea, and hopefully after that E-bay will be worth looking at for fruit machines sales, not new cheating ideas.

What about wardriving / hacking?
Could be an interesting proposition. I could be sat outside an arcade with my WiFi enabled PDA getting info on which machines are / are not worth playing.
Surely thats even better than using a refill key?!

According to the presentation made by the two inventors, that would not be possible. It was entering realms I did not fully understand (I am a simple hydraulics engineer you understand) but there was a "firmware" issue which meant it was un-emulatable. Or so I think.

The equipment could be bought though.
Yes, a good idea, but needs so much thought put into security. I reckon it'd be hacked within a short period of time, after all, everything is.

Damn right. If people put effort into hacking the Xbox 360 Firmware, for example, *just* to make it play pirate games, I think with the prospect of making a decent income out of it, people would work a way around the security out.
Then it would be patched. Then the patched version would be hacked. Loop.

I agree, to an extent. However, the number of people capable of hacking would be infinately small in comparison to those capable of pressing an RF button, strimming or turning a refill key; and selling such hacking information on sites like e-Bay would be incredibly illegal, unlike what happens now. So the presumption that not everyone is a computer mastermind is sound; because not everyone is! Therefore, make it more complicated, the technology would evolve, AWP cheating would lessen. There's another loop.

I used to work in an bingo club and all the fruit machines where linked up to a pc and you could easliy access all the same information that their invention was offering surely all the big casino's, bingo's, arcade chain operators already do this. Yes they weren't wireless but is that really a big thing as its not like your fruit machines are on the move & no one can see the wires. I would of thought this invention is limited to just independants big companies will already have something very similar in operation.

you are on the ball ben! never thought about the other wireless applications, phones, pdas laptops even with encryption it can still be done, forget your mod chips just concentrate on the section 16s!

wireless has been on the go with fruit machines for a while but the benefits haven't really got passed the manufacterer stages.
most operators are using hand held barcode readers for info and as said before midas seems to be a well established means for collecting data if needed.
good idea by the guys on dragons den but at the moment its not needed.

Correct Jonny. All the big chain arcades produce 'AWP readouts' which are essentially the same as this wireless invention's provided variables. So as Bazpeeb says, the invention is not needed in the high street arcades. Even if it did offer new variables, Thomas's would just make a 'CMS AWP wireless AWP/S16 readout' prototype. Now as for casinos, I usually watch the repeat of Dragon's Den on Tuesday Night. I would have thought the technology would be largely supercilious in casinos anyway, but if Duncan B made an offer (casino mogul e.t.c) it must have some useful application then.....
