A neighbour of mine has an EPOCH Italian Job Machine. When powered up the alarm is going off and on the display it says PAY 100P ERR 01. Thinking this may have something to do with the payout hopper I've removed it and checked nothing was stuck in it and verified that the plastic part inside can rotate. On putting it all back the machine still comes up with the same error. I've traced all the wiring through from the hopper and checked everything is connected properly and can't find anything amiss. If you press the Hopper dump button the machine won't dump the hopper. One last thing in putting the machine into test mode and running a comms check it displayed a port fail message.

I'm not an expert on fruit machines so am unsure what to do next, any one got any ideas?

Regards

Nick

the comms port fail is nothing to do with the hopper it is purely a data capture device that companys like leisurelink use for collections meter checks only. now if you have checked the hopper for rotation of the bowl and that is ok then its gotta be either the hopper motor or the hopper drive pcb which is located at the side of the hopper fixed to the cabinet. this may have a cover over it. also check the fuse for the hopper to make sure its not blown.

hope this helps

Thanks for your help, I won't get a chance to get back to the machine today but will try to take another look at it tomorrow. I have removed the cover on the hopper drive pcb, to check everything was connected correctly to it, but didn't remove this board from the machine. I take it the hopper fuse is on this board?

also ensure that the opto (the bit where the coins come out) on the hopper has no wires broken and the lens is clean. Check that the machine has been topped up and has coins in it. It is unlikely to be the hopper motor itself if it revolves without jamming, wd40 the motor won't hurt

i've had a few burnt out motors in my time so it may be the hopper moter especially if its not making a noise.

Cheers guys, my neighbour managed to fix this himself in the end, turned out to be a stuck sensor in the hopper.

nope no jammed coins, the coin sensor was physically stuck, freed it off and it's been working fine since. Only expanation I can think is some dirt got into the wrong place and jammed the sensor.
