you boys are still living in the bronze age, get with it. give me one good disadvantage of a mac with intel duo 2. cause if the buttons on a mouse is such a disadvantage i give in.
I used to be a PC gunner, since the change my worries disapeared.

I'll stick with win2003 server. I setup win2003 to look like my previous 2000 setup which i had set up to look like nt. I have tried them all 95,98,20o0,xp,2003 and the latter been by far the best, solid as a rock. You can keep your fancy, pointless, fancy display options, the reason I stuck with 2000 over xp. Something stable, functional and swift is all i ask
as for the requirements Vista seems to be aimed at gamers and multimedia, once the os matures in a year or so (after early buyers have finished beta testing it for m$) then the requirements won't seem that much

i am currently running Vista Home Premium! Bought it about a week after release! I'm really pleased with it! It runs nice on my PC! I've had no crashes, or anything else! The problems and solutions area is handy, its now starting to find solutions to the few compatability issues that exist on my PC! Even an old game which I have (Grim Fandango) runs on Vista!!

No crashing,
No virus
Easy to use
Small & Compact
Quiet
Quick
Easy to use suites
runs xp & Vista, so fast it will knock the shit out of some Pc's
I just dont believe the mac gets its pennies worth, everyone in this world is so used to seeing welcome to windows... why not welcome to mac. How many people sit for ages trying to make some digital media software work and not actually get anywhere. Who has actually used a mac and then said this thing is a pile of shit.... or are we just guessing cause we too afraid to change
I think now they are using the intel technology and bit of fancy marketing. things will start to look up for them.. As i said previously I was a windows user. I took the gamble and am very happy indeed.

but if its a core duo processor, running windows OS then its basically a pc in a white box that cant be upgraded cos of apples stupidity on that section.
Plus its also overpriced for the same matching item in pc format, therefore it would make more sense to buy a PC.
They started using Intel technology because they realised that the MAC on its own was absoutely no competitor for the PC as it wasnt supported anywhere near as well on the software front.
Then a windows OS gets introduced to it as people are crying out for a worthwhile OS.
Seriously, if you buy and Corsa, then open the bonnet up, take out the vauxhall engine and bung in a fiesta engine. Tear out the dashboard and innards of the drivers compartment and fit all fiesta components in there instead can you seriously still call it a corsa just becuase the outside looks the same.
Fact is people are dragged in by the myth that the MAC is better, its not and apple realised this and so decided to try and make it more like a PC.
What do you do when you mac becomes outdated? with a pc you can add a couple of parts and become back up to date. With a MAC you go out and buy an entirely new system....oh thats handy aint it!
Before the introduction of intel and windows OS what games were available for the MAC? Myst? well thats just lovely, such a wide range.
No crashing or viruses? yeah, becuase there was nothing worth creating a virus for, soon as they bunged something worth going for the viruses appeared, Leap-A hit the mac ages ago and is still doing damage around the world. If theres no viruses now then why are their anti virus softwares available?
Fact is if your not a complete imbecile with a PC then you know how to protect your PC from almost all possible invasions, its simple, decent firewall, decent virus protection, job done.
No crashes? sorry complete myth, they crash and do such quite regularly i can assure you, it can just as easily have hardware conflicts, extension conflicts, bugs etc.
Personally i've not had XP crash on me for well over a year, so its pretty stable by my view.
Easy to use? So is a pc, whats you point?
small and compact - exactly how a pc can be, shuttles were around for a long time before the minimac came about, apple just saw an avenue for mroe sales and jumped on it.
Quiet - mines silent thanks
quick - mines damn fast and aint anywhere near top end, in fact its probably worth a fraction of a mini mac and can do things as fast, faster than it can handle windows OS thats for sure.
Easy to use suites ? didnt we cover easy to use?
runs vista XP & vista? why does it want to do that if its own OS was so good?
knocks the shit out of some pcs? nothing modern it wont im afraid, older systems maybe, but thats becuase they are old...simple that one.
Believe me i have used a macintosh, i have had experience with most of the ranges since the late eighties and i have still to find a reason as to how they can be better than a PC. Its just a fashion statement im afraid

i totally agree with u. ive used a mac a few times now and find that they are not on the same par as a pc. Pc`s are by far the better option in the long run. the only good thing about a mac is the styling of the product, but you can also style a pc to your own taste, but not a mac.

Mr Mac, please I hope you did not run out of breath writing that. Its just a typical reply from a Long running PC user...
Sorry guys but i love the mac, for design it runs the best packages and xp is there if you need it.
Quite frankly since i have installed parralells, i have not touched xp.
If this is a fully fledge debate, please lets involve real mac users....
P.s jimmy., nothing personal eh..!

never take anything personal but i would appreciate a reading of the post in full before labelling me a "typical PC user"
as i have said in my previous post, i have used macs extensively since the late 80's so i have near enough 16 years of experience with macs, they can crash and there are viruses out for them. Thy are just less prevalent at the moment because the mac is so restricted in its native state that theres nothing worth trying to attack.
Its a fact that a pc can do anything a mac can....but it can also do a lot more.
The only question i ask is you is....
Is a mac with an intel core duo chip and windows OS anything more than a PC in disguise?

OK..heres what i intended doing..
With partition magic splitting my 120gb into 2 seperate sections and have the D drive for Vista and the C drive for XP..and dual boot..So after a lot of effin about I got it..went to install Vista onto D drive and it was having none of it..after asking about I was informed that Vista "HAS" to be installed on the C Drive nothing else will do..
Ok fine i thought ill move everything from C drive onto D format C and install it there..Then I was told XP wont run off anything else apart from C drive either.
Is this dog poo ? I dunno..Seem a lot of f***in about to me just to install an OS..the way my PC is running at the moment I dont wanna be messin about with it..cos its running sweet as..But next time I need to format then I may install Vista 1st.

NOTHING WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!
i pitty the fools who buy this and find out their favorite software (which they also bought) does not work.

Jim i need a machine which will edit and digitally impose HD video and pictures fast , professionally and do a good job. Prove to me a mid market same priced PC can do that as quick as the mac. There simply is no comparison. Yes I agree the updating element is a bit naff but hey a 8 year old G3 can still pan the pants of some basic PCs. £500 over 4 years minimum, thats fook all.
OS system, who gives you Ilife with its fantastic editing software in with the £500.
Yes you may have used macs since the 80s, but quite frankly my point is I made the switch to a Mac and have enjoyed every minute of it, its just a shame you did not.
Cheers

Ah, the old Mac vs PC debate. Always good fun!
As the chances of convincing either side of the benefits of the other system is somewhat unlikely, I'll skip joining that debate and respond to the Vista vs XP question. I've had the opportunity to run Vista since the early betas. I started off on a P4 2.6 with 1GB RAM on which it ran OK. Since the release, I have been running on a dual core Athlon with 2GB RAM and a 512MB video card. Needless to say, it runs great on that platform. In my view, there are some nice options built into the O/S. A lot of these have been available via 3rd party in the past (Improved firewall, drive encryption, tabbed browsing etc) but having them all available by default makes things feel a lot less fragmented than in XP. The changes to explorer are largely improved as well. My favourite thing has to be the ability to restore previous versions of files/folders locally on the PC (previously only available natively on server 2003 volumes).
Would I upgrade an older PC to this operating system? No, I would not, as although there are benefits I don't think the cost of upgrade (in terms of both the software and hardware) is worth it. I would, however, get it with a new PC. It worries me a bit to see new PCs sold with 512MB RAM - this really reduces the O/S performance. As RAM is cheap, I'd nip over to crucial and upgrade to 1GB (or more) as it is relatively cheap to do so.

debait eh?
pc - standardly priced (except the os) tonnes of sofware for free
mac - great performance, well overpriced
and for my 2 pennys worth -
amiga - arguably the best home computer ever made, pic them up for peanuts, OS can load from floppy faster than a pc can from a scsi drive. pirates first choice, no internet viruses ever made, great for programmers wishing to hit the hard code. possibly relaunch over the next few years? would take a hell of alot for me to sell up my quad core and get a miggy again, despite being my all time hero of computers.
zx spectrum - rubber what?
