Hello

I have just returned from my local pub after playing one of the Elvis fruit machines (the two screen 9 line one).

I got very excited to get on the game and gambled to £12 and got given the option of 3 guitars bonus. I took this and watched the figures rise.

The first guitar got to £2.10 and the second guitar just kept going.

The landlord decided when the 2nd Guitar had reached nearlly £25000 (thats twenty five thousand pounds) to switch off the machine and reboot only to be left with nothing, In fairness the landlord honured the orginal £12 win but I feel that this is a little unfair.

I have played this machine for a long time and on many occassions seen the jackpot of £25 come in at least 5 times on the run maybe more and I think that its unfair for me not to get this.

I understand that software can have glitches but if the machine is telling me it owes a lot of money and I get nothing this is very unfair.

I have witnesses at the pub and plenty of photographic evidence and would like some sort of compensation.

The machine is supplied by barcrest.

Am I out of luck or should they honour a more profitable win, whats the legal implications of this, everyone tells me I should go to the papers. Am i being daft and fighting a losing battle.

Please advise and help guys.

Losing battle I am afraid - It is obviously a technical glitch (especially as legally they cannot give out a prize of that value due to licensing). Nice to see it go up, but to be fair you were lucky to get the £12.

Hi There

Well as the machine cannot payout more then £25 per game and it went to £25000 almost this was obviously an error, also there is no way of knowing where the feature would have gone if it had not gone wrong, I am not familier with this machine but i am guessing that the bouns is a gamble and when you choose this you would loose your £12.00 win, therefore the fact the landlord give you the £12 was good enough to sastisfy the legal side, as quite simply there is no way thay could have known what the win on the feature would have been it might have been less than £12. I think any case you raised would be laughed out of court, but i am sure some of the more legal minded users will confirm this.

Technically speaking, you were only entitled to your initial stake back, as the machine had malfunctioned. Obviously just refunding your 25p or whatever the cost of a credit was would be a bit mean-spirited under the circumstances. £12 was fair in my opinion as that was the value of the genuine money on show, but I would have asked for the maximum prize available on that credit (£25). I don't think the landlord could really have argued with that.
Despite the fact that the machine showed £25000 I don't think you could reasonably expect any more than what it says on the disclaimer - NO PRIZE GREATER THAN £25 CAN BE WON FROM THIS MACHINE IN ANY ONE GAME. This ensures that the landlord legally cannot give you more than £25.

You could argue for the other £13, but it's a bit pointless now :)

It was a simple software glitch due to insufficient testing of the game before it went out on site. It's probably been fixed now by Barcrest. I doubt very much you'll be able to pursue it further. At least you have some rare photos of the occasion and an interesting story to tell...:)
Watch out! There's a SIG thief about...

As steve says all people are obliged to do on a machine error is return your stake for the game involved, but as a good will jesture the gaming board dont get upset if you on occasion make a payment ( refund ) etc providing it dont exceed the maximum for that stake etc

but if any operator wants to get arsey with you then can just give you the 25p or whatever and nothing you can do about it as there within the law....

Steve
