Deal Or No Deal

01 September 2010 - 12:05 AM

I've found myself playing a lot of deal or no deal fruit machines in my local town recently. This past weekend was a long weekend so for the past four days i've been playing the deal or no deal fruit machines and the deal or no deal pub quiz machine. On the fruit machines I'm £59 up and I did bank rather a lot on the quiz machines also.

However, I started playing them 6 months ago after a strange dream about them. Those lads who take a hundred quid out while I'm stood having a pint must of made an impression on me. I started tallying the amount I'd spent as soon as I started playing them because I knew how much friends had lost in the past. Anyhow, summing wins and losses (mostly losses), it's cost me £374.

Don't know if this is bad compared to some of you but I can't help feeling like I'm wasting my money. I tried a deal or no deal machine earlier today, first putting £2 in. I got onto the cash round and kept saying no deal until there was just £3 and £70 left. The bankers offer was £33 which I declined because I greedily wanted the Jackpot. I ended up with £3. Disappointed I put in a further £45 during which I got to the cash round again. This time I'd gone down to the last 2 prizes which were £15 and £70. Bankers offer was £40 but I wanted the top prize for any single game on that machine. Declined the bankers offer, almost having a heart attack by this point, when I saw that I'd won the £70 I was very pleased to say the least. I'd finally won a jackpot on a £70 machine after embarking on this journey 6 months ago.

Fruit-Emu is awesome. Fruit machines are very amusing and I love gaming/gambling of all forms. From XBox 360, to casino stuff, to iPhone/iPad. The thing I love about the cash round on the deal or no deal pub fruities is there is some skill involved. You can always accept the bankers offer and carry on about your day. I think it takes bollocks to keep saying no and go for that jackpot though and I'm glad I did.

The ip (interlectual property) of the gaming concepts along with the artwork and electronics which go into making these machines is whats drawing me in. I'm learning modeling/animation/vfx in maya and learning how to program for windows/xbox 360 in c# and c++ so I know all about what goes into designing and engineering a decent product that will sell. I must say, fruit machines are very addictive and a games designer could learn a lot from them.

Anyway, please let me know what's on your mind too.
