Trying To Set Up Live Chat Service on Website - Help Required

19 January 2009 - 10:51 PM

Hi guys.

Really hope someone can help with this. I'm no internet wizard but I'm trying to set up a live chat programmme on our Company website but I've hit a snag....It won't work, lol.... but I did have it working 2 months ago. Unfortunately I found that I'd set up two different versions under 2 different user accounts and when I changed one set of graphics it wouldn't work. I'm not sure if this was because I'd logged in to the wrong account or what but the whole thing ended up with me reinstalling the chat programme and now it refuses to work at all. I'll give you the details.

The Web site is www.chap.org.uk and the chat link should be below the menu on the left. It is only showing up as an image placeholder once the site eventually loads.

If you hover over the image placeholder it gives the link. The IP address is correct as that is our organisations Public I.P. The rest of the address is where it is stored in the chat clients folder.

I have set up the Programmes server, gateway and run the chat client and they all connect to each other fine. I've tested the chat locally and it works fine. I can chat with myself on the PC. The firewall has been set to allow certain ports needed to chat and listen.

I have generated the Javascript code and placed it in the ROOT folder of our website as the programme says. There is tracking code as well that should alllow me to "see" users visiting the site. This used to work as well but doesn't anymore either.

I have IIS installed and ASPNET2 installed and the Chat directory is installed where it should be.

I've checked the Server and Gateway and they are both monitoring the site....but neither the server or chat client feeds back any information.

Like I've said, I had it running a few months ago.....I can't work out what I've missed for the life of me.

I'm pretty convinced that it's something to do with the local computer inside our network...but I can't think what it might be. Does anyone here know what it could be that's stopping it from loading up? I'd be grateful for any advice or suggestions that you may have. Security settings, local host settings? Any advice would be great. Thanks. :)

P.S: If it helps....I've just remembered another couple of things. We have a router which I've set correctly I think...and also the programme I'm using as the chat client is called Who's On v.4 if anyone has any experience with this.

FME - Wins and losses!!!

18 December 2008 - 09:11 PM

Do you know something? I was chatting to a girl at work today about my "dark" days. The days of addiction to fruit machines and she asked me how much I reckoned I'd lost. I couldn't answer precisely although it must have been well into 5 figures, so that got me thinking "why don't I try and work it out using the emulators?".

Okay this may seem silly to some of you but what I've decided to do is equate what I spent on a daily basis back then to playing the emulator games. Most of them are set between 78% and 86%. Assuming that out of every £200 I put through machines then on average I should receive roughly about £160 back in "winnings". I used to spunk probably about the same amount £40 a day on machines in my misspent youth...so what I propose to do is carry out an experiment in January, for the whole month.

I'm going to put £50 through 4 different machines every day (maybe not manage 4 every day...but that's like real life really). If my losses go above £50 then I will stop anyway....as that is the amount I used to take out with me (yes, it was a lot of money back then!!!). I may come back to some machines and play them more regularly than others if I've lost a lot of cash on them (as you would). I'll try and make it as varied as possible playing the old £4 JP's right through to the current £25 JP's. After all, if the payout is 86% then it shouldn't really matter right? I'll play them from their current state and won't reset any ROMS. I will also not try to force any JP's as in my day you took what was on offer....lol. I may have the odd drunken hi-lo gamble but if I get the feeling there's a £2 block then I'll take the cash. In other words, I'll play sensibly.

I'll log on this thread which machines I've played on a daily basis and how much I've won / lost on them.

I'm really doing this to try and find out exactly how much money I frittered away back in the 80's, 90's and early part of the millenium. If anyone can think of any way I can make this more accurate then please feel free to post. Remember, this is only on the emulator so don't worry about me going bankrupt, lol. :)

It would be interesting to hear your thoughts.

Questions that need to be answered!!!

12 November 2008 - 10:37 PM

Tell you what started this off. A friend of mine at work asked where the word "crap" came from. On investigation it seems the best bet is that a man called Thomas Crapper, a plumber in the 19th Century patented a lot of products to do with plumbing and water facilities. Whilst, it seems, he didn't actually invent the bog (his name isn't patented, although he was the boss of the man who did patent it)...but it could have been him. Hence the term "I'm just going to the Crapper"....and therefore the word now means to designate something that is shite. :)

Here's a couple more to get you started.

Why do most southern Irish men have high pitched voices?

Why do women all talk at the same time and then pretend they've heard what the rest of them have said?

Let's get the ball rolling here.... ;)

Q & A's please!!!. Let it not be said that man doesn't have a thirst for knowledge about things that really matter. :bigeyes04:
