thanks for your reply drmad2004

i have plugged in an external monitor and is displayed properly on the external monitor.

when i move the ribbon cable slightly whilst the laptop is turned on the screen flikers with white lines all over the place then when i stop touching the cable the white lines dissapear but the screen stays red. i haved ordered an new ribbon cable from the acer website so when that arrives ill pop it in and see if that resolves the problem. if it dosnt i may have to change the actual connection on the motherboard that the ribbon cable plugs into.

but i hope not cause that a delicate operation and requires some good steady hand and really thin soldering.

cheers

Well in that case it could be the cable and the screen but its right to go for the cheaper option 1st as I did with mums laptop inverter then screen.

If the cable does not sort it then I would try for a new LCD next and not mess with the connectors unless they look suspect.

Look on ebay for the part number of your screen and also what that model laptops that fits, then search that laptop type for screens you can come up with alternate compatible screens that will work. Or just search the size/resolution. I found a decent used one for £30.

Red tint is faulty CCFL tubes that are on the way out. you cant really replace them that easily so buy a new LCD panel but 1st test it isnt the GFX chip by plugging it into an external monitor.

Experience with LCD screens tells me that a faulty cable usually just leads to a white or corrupted screen and not just single colour

Also my mums dell inspiron did it and then the screen goes blank, new LCD panel sorted it.

Sorry for not being about much..

Hmm yours has 4 transformers so I assume 8 outputs? mine had 2 trans and 4 outputs so im basing my assumption on that.

Your board is seperate from the main PCB so it would probably be easier for you to buy a replacement board. if you cant find a spare based on the Tv model number google the part number on the inverter.

It could just be a faulty Transformer on the inverter board but if one thing has blown leading to the transformers going a replacement transformer is just going to blow agin.

The only other thing you could do is buy the same tv but with a smashed LCD panel but working otherwise, broken LCD tellys seem to go for mere pounds on ebay :)

How many CCFL tubes does the tv have? like how many plugs come out of the panel that go to the inverter?

You can buy Universal inverters, just solder a 12V Ground and 5V on/off signal and that will fix it.

I picked up a 19" technika hdtv and fixed it this way :)

PS I would never touch Beko tv's ever again. A friend of mine got a CRT one years ago and it lasted a week, the replacement lasted 2 days and the third smelt of burning.

The laser is on its way out or just needs a good clean.

If you have a missus she most likely has some nail varnish remover and some cotton buds, give it a good clean with that then wipe dry.

If no joy then you need a mulitmeter set to 20k ohms and bring the reading of the laser down so it increases the power.

The Benq/Liteon drive lasers have easy markings on them so you know what is the CD and DVD pot with a C and D next to the Pot.

You just need to bring the reading down small steps at a time them measure before and after so you know where you are then test each time.
