Hit the buffers again!
When creating a layout and I open any machine that has multiple roms, even though I load them all at once by selecting them all and pressing open as described in the Idiots manual, this idiot sees nothing happening at all! The LED displays remain black.
Am I again missing the unmissable, or am I destined to hit buffers till my face caves in?
Yours, feeling
Bruce

Multiple rom files - nothing happens

Another problem - ROMS appear not to work
14 July 2005 - 10:51 AM
For some reason today, I can't get any ROMS to load properly when trying to build layouts. Everything seemed fine yesterday - maybe I am missing something!
I load the roms (according to their type - I make sure of that)
Then I load the blank.dat and it shows.
Then I wait for the displays to light up, but nothing happens at all.
Done this with about 17 or 18 different roms and the same result everytime - the blank loads, but refuses to do anything.
Can't figure it out at all -I even emptied my windows/temp folder just in case something in there was blocking it, but to no avail.
Anyone help!!!!
Regards

MFME 2 Can't open file other than dat
14 July 2005 - 09:41 AM
I have been using the MFME 1 for creating layouts, but have a problem with MFME 2
I simply cannot get it to open anything other than a dat file when looking to load the blank.res.
The file extension option only displays files of type dat, unlike MFME 1 which lets you specify a wildcard.
Anyone else have this problem? I uninstalled the Fruit Machine Wizard, downloaded it again and MFME2 still insists on only allowing the loading of a dat file.

Creating layouts from scratch
13 July 2005 - 12:37 PM
I probably still have a lot to understand about the whole FME thing, but search as I can, it is elluding me entirely how to create a new layout using ROMS.
I have read the manual at the Repository by Munsta, and although I get the gist of it, I can't figure out for example, how to load the res file, what a character file is etc etc.
If someone can help me get started I'd be very grateful, the rest, hopefully I can figure out myself.
The reason I am asking is that I love DXing, but I also find it more challenging to create entirely new stuff if possible, (being more of a programmer than a graphic artist!)
I really would love to be able to create layouts from the many rom files that have yet to be done as classics or dx's.
With thanks in anticipation

Switchback (JPM) DX 1024

My second attempt at DXing. It isn't perfect, but I built it anyway because I loved this machine! Found it a real struggle to work between the glass scan and the flyers, mainly for that three D panel in it where the feature/nudge/cash climbers are.

Still, I think it looks reasonable and it should guarantee taking you back in time. I love playing it, a lot of good game play in it and really, the fact it's a 10p £4 machine sometimes eludes you!
With thanks to Bugs and Trouty who did the original classic layout and to the repository for the glass scans and flyers.
And to everyone here for giving me a new (highly intensive!) hobby!
