The beginning of the end of the Addiction to Fruities
11 March 2004 - 12:35 AM
[B]
There seems to have been many forum posts about addiction to Fruit Machines recently so it prompted me to start one about "The beginning of the end of the Addiction to Fruities".
For many years in the 80's - my college & uni yrs I was definately a borderline addict. Sure I'd get decent wins, but I'd also lose big time. Funny how you always remember the big wins but never the loss of £20 here or £30 there do you? You remember the enjoyment part of playing the machines but never the sad part. Good times on good machines. Had my favourites I wont deny that.
After I somehow manged to scrape through & graduate I'd say I was an addict. Not easy when on the dole!
My beginning of the end of the Addiction to Fruities came one day when I was playing Flip-A-Note in an inner-city arcade. I'd just started to see this girl- Paula - & basically was gambling away my dosh. I know this sounds fairy tale like but IT IS true. It was either go out with her on a date that night or gamble away my cash in the arcade during the day.
Of course like a pratt I gambled. I was down to my last 10p. Bunged it in Flip-A-Note & got one of those random/flukey/skill chancy "!" things on the reel. I managed to get it to the end of the lit up FLIPANOTE & got to features board. Gambled all the way up to Jackpot (£4), but got repeat on bonus play of £2, which follows the £4 win. Somehow thru luck/skill/Act of God or whatever got £18-00 from machine. Being overjoyed after being so dismayed that I'd have to cancel my date though no money I shoved the cash in my pocket & legged it out of that arcade.
Some how I'd seen the light. Gone from absolute dejection to happiness at being able to take her out . Ok, not a flash nite out but to the pictures & a drink after.
Paula turned my life around & didn't know it. Still doesn't know it to this day & probably never will. Yes, we broke up several months later for other reasons, but that day was the turning point. Thanks for saving me Paula.
Went virtually 'cold Turkey' on Fruities after that.
Since then I have [B]to admit that have been into arcades & played a bit BUT somehow playing fruities just didn't feel the same - it felt wrong. Didnt get the "buzz".Just didn't have the urge to play & for the last 8 yrs or so I can count on 1 hand the no. of times I've played a machine. And then it was with my partner (of 8 yrs now) as sort of a seasidey game or two when on a day out.
I'll play the emulators coz I enjoy the fun of them, no cash lost no problem. Somehow on the PC it's like playing another PC based game.
Now the idea behind my thread is - If you are addicted or even think you have a problem seek help- there is life after fruities. Go on make that call. Or tell a trusted friend. The fine line between playing a few machines for fun & becoming addicted is a very very fine line indeed.

Fortune Numbers

Fortune Numbers classic layout is a great way to play the classic machine.
I remember being @ college mid 80's & playing the machine in a little cafe in the High street. Think I musta drunk more cups of tea then to be able to play the bright shiny new machine, than I have had jackpots from it !
Thx to all concerned for bringing back those great memories!

How can I nudge up in HyperViper?
Can only get mouse to nudge down each reel.
Am I missing an instruction on how to use the Nudge Up button?
Thanks
