I'm surprised that the fruit machine industry is still going, I really am.  I really don't understand why anyone would want to play them anymore.  A lot of pubs don't even have fruit machines in them these days.

There has been no actually gameplay for years now.  I very rarely go on them anymore, but every time I do, it's the same result!  The minimum stake is usually 25p, but you only get 1 win-line.  You could play forever to get anything playing like that!!  So minimum is 50p, which is too high in my opinion.  I only ever go on DOND machines if I do and that's simply because those are the only machines that appear to be everywhere.  Takes anything above £5 to get on the board each time and you hit the £3/£4 blocker and always die if you gamble on ? mark or go for Cash or Bust.

I've also noticed that a few machines now give you a bank nudges option now.  So you build up the nudges (because there is never anything there when it offers), but the machine still decides when it will let you use the nudges and when it does, there is usually nothing there or maybe one of the two smallest cash values.

You could stand in front of a machine and almost say "I know I'm going to lose whatever I put in this machine"....but still go on it.  FFS!

Changing jackpot from £70 to £100 is irrelevant because bugger all people get anywhere near the jackpot anyway.  This will just make it even more unobtainable.

I, for one, would actually like BellFruit to fail.  Imagine how much money that have made from their DOND machines over the years.  Crazy!!

My first go was up at my then-local bowling alley with a mate. I just played arcade machines back then, but I had a spare 40p or so and stuck it in Downtown (think it was Bell Fruit). Was £6 jackpot in tokens. Got on the board, went a few goes and took Mystery Wallet feature. Didn't have a clue what it was, but it gave me £5.40! We thought we were rich!

All in tokens and I even asked if I could change them up for cash at the desk! Funnily enough, they said no, but you could use them towards food from their fast food bit?! Strange. Think I kept them and went back a few days later and probably lost it all.

That was possibly around 1993 at a guess.

Been hooked ever since and I dread to think how much I have spent on them seeing as it's nearly 20 years later!

Luckily enough I hate the new ones (DoND - need I say more?!) and hate the £70 jackpots, so I don't really bother any more. However, on the occasional day out to Southend, there are a few old machines there.

Loved the days of Road Hog, Hot Rod, Viva Espania, Andy Capp, etc!

I've been stung on £5 jackpots many times. However I was playing Monopoly Road to Riches on £5, which normally gives you up to £1 before killing you and I got the top feature and it went for about £40.

Bet that didn't pay out for months afterwards!!!!!!

An other point, what's the funniest thing anyone has seen with a fruity? I mean, for example, I saw some kids lose all their money on a Cat & Mouse JPM a few years back (ok, probably longer than that!) and they started attacking it with pool cues. I found it hilarious, but the arcade owner clearly didn't!

Nice one cainer, made me laugh! It was quite like that - "hold that", "nudge that", "take that feature", etc!
