Would love to play that again

Thanks to Mame you can.

One night I played this constantly to see if I could finish the game. If you remember you replenished your health by adding more 10ps - so as long as you have money you don't get killed.

Well I got up to about level 66 or something, after about 6 hours of constant play with no end in sight that I had to give up and go to bed.

I worked out I must have put in around £1000 pound at least in 'virtual money' - must have made atari a fortune in the 80's!

I heard that someone got to around level 200 something and still didn't finish! Though this may be an urban legend.

Does anyone actually know how many levels were written into this game? (Still brilliant and fun though!)

This is quite difficult!

There are so many downloads of machines I haven't played in real life which have been very playable.

However when I come to recommend anything I find I am massively swayed towards machines I was hooked on as a youngster, even though they are very basic in the feature department. An example of this would be 'Each way Nudger' - I'm thrilled for hours in nostalga lane although im sure any newbie would be bored after the first jackpot!

This also goes for my personal favourite machine of all time - the unemulated 'Lite-a-nudge'. Basic numbers for nudges stuff - but I know I would have to take the day off just to play it when some god like figure emulates the system 80 tech and this rom. Hey-ho.

With you aware of this 'nostalga tint' - I would agree with the 'hyper viper' recommendation and add the similar styled 'Line-up' and 'adders and ladders'.

Although (suprise, suprise) 1980's machines - The basic concept of numbers on the reels pushing you around the feature board has yet to be beaten!

You don't need to 'access' the feature board (as in the usual - 3 feature symbols on the winline such as the still recommended 'las vegas strip' and alot of modern machines) and it makes every 'hold' - especially with a 'feature held' light an exciting event as you feverishly count along the board to see where you will land. (great I hold the 2 and the blank - as long as no number comes in I get 6 nudges - damn! a 3) - This should be enough for your son to take up swearing.

I also recommend the old 2p gobblers 'Rat Race' (try and find the rat for £1.50 - no chance - but you WILL try) and 'Spoof' - Great mid 80's machines that prove you can come up with 50 features that can always end up with a 4p win! Get the one that wins the 50p and you suddenly think you are Paul Newman fron 'The Sting'.

No...No...This won't do at all!!

Hello - I have been a frequent visitor to this website since accidentally coming across it at the end of last year.

I have happily downloaded the free emulations and enjoyed reading the forums - especially in regard to the 1980's machines.

The board has seemed to be balanced in such a way that I had little to add to discussions, so haven't felt the need to make a post......until now.

Speaking as a lurker/downloader, I have to totally agree with the reply that said that us downloaders have been spoiled by the quality of some of the downloads available and expect this all the time.

I myself have no skill in any area of emu/rom creation and probably have absolutely no idea of the exact amount of time and effort taken to create the smallest part of a fruit machine emulation - but I know it must be alot,(my god - it takes me a hour or so to type a good letter!).

If the critical virus sender falls into the same 'downloader' catagory as myself - I would like to point out that most, if not all of the emu creators involved give us the fruits (no pun) of their work, (considerable time spentwhen many of the rest of us are in the pub or asleep) absolutely free of charge.

All they ask in return is a little bit of honest feedback/criticism - why? - so they can improve their work to provide more downloads for us! Why the need to be spiteful? or destructive? If you don't like the work involved you are more than welcome not to download anything else and sod off to the free porn sites.

I appreciate every download made available - simply because I miss the machines and you cannot get them from anywhere else. Unfairly slagging off the creators isn't going to achieve any positive result. To do what they do must mean they have intelligence - and any intelligent person isn't going to waste valuable time and effort only to be attacked and ridiculed.

This type of honest thread is a truely terrible thing not just for the creative community that have been quick to respond - but for the ever growing number of grateful downloaders that wouldn't know how to start an emulation if our lives depended on it!

If all the hardworking creators like the 2 mentioned above feel there is no support for there efforts simply because us downloaders are used to the internet being full of quality downloads for free, then it is a sad day because eventually it will all fall apart and we all lose.

I hope the 2 designers do understand that for every ungrateful tosser, there are a 100 or so quietly enjoying the fruits of their work and maybe it is time we spoke up and said so.

Here endeth the sermon.
